Thank you for choosing us to create your custom portrait! We think you’ll be very happy with the results. Commissioning a custom portrait is a straight-forward process. Just follow the steps below.
1. You’ll first want to look over our Pricing Guide to determine the size, background style, number of subjects, and whether you want a Conte drawing on tinted paper, or a full-color painting on canvas.
2. You may already have a photograph that would make a great portrait, but if you do need to take photos, check out our Photo Tips (under the FAQ’s tab). We’ll need one to four photos of the subject in order to get the detail required. Remember, in order for us to paint a beautiful time-honored portrait for you, we need quality photos to work with. If you’d like a background or additional subjects in your portrait, they can be sent in separate photos, and we will create a unified composition from them.
3. Fill out the simple questionnaire we’ve provided (see Ordering tab for the Portrait Questionnaire), then attach your photographs, and click on the “Send” button.
4. After receiving your questionnaire and photos, we will email you an invoice with the portrait price (the Base Price plus the options you have chosen—see Pricing Guide) The online PayPal invoice will have a place for you to pay the required 30% deposit. You may also pay by check or money order if you prefer.
5. Once you’ve made the deposit, a place will be reserved for you on our waiting list. We will then send you a preliminary sketch for your approval. Our preliminary sketch, composed from your Questionnaire and photos, is for layout and stylistic purposes only and is not a portrait.
6. Please allow four to eight weeks for your portrait to be completed—possibly longer in busy times. If there is a particular date you would like your portrait to be ready by (birthday, anniversary, holiday, etc.), please let us know in the Portrait Questionnaire, and we’ll do our very best to accommodate you.
7. When your portrait is finished, we will send a picture of the completed work for your approval. At this time we will make minor adjustments to the portrait, should you desire. We will also send an invoice for the balance due, which can be paid online through PayPal. (As with the deposit, you may pay by check or money order if you prefer.)
8. When we have received your final payment, we will ship your portrait to you. In the continental U.S., we pay all shipping and handling charges!
Thank you for the opportunity to work with you in this creative endeavor. We think you will find that your portrait will become a family treasure—something that is sure to give you much enjoyment through the years.
For MuralScapes
Thank you for selecting us to do custom hand-painted work for you. Whether you would like a mural, a folding screen, decorative painting, or faux, we look forward to working with you to create an environment that is uniquely your own. The following steps should help you in making decisions about your space, as well as inform you about the process.
1. First, have in mind a general idea of what you’d like to have us paint for you, and the area you’d like us to paint it in.
2. Sometimes it’s helpful to have an “Ideas Folder” where you stash favorite scenes, colors, patterns, etc., taken from magazines, brochures, your own photographs—or just ideas you might have thought of. (For ideas from us, go to our Gallery and choose one of the categories you’ll find there.)
3. Next, send us an email or call us to schedule an appointment at the site where the work is to be done, in order to talk about your ideas. A $75 fee for the initial on-site consultation will be applied toward your mural, faux, or decorative painting. If you’re located some distance from our studio in Maine, we can do much of the work by email, fax, and phone.
4. Working with your ideas, we will sketch out a design for your project, or create sample board(s) for faux. (See Pricing Guide and click on MuralScapes) Once you’ve approved the design we’ve sketched out for you, or the sample board of faux we’ve made, we’ll draw up a contract and arrange a time for the work to begin.
5. During the painting process, we stay in regular contact with you and keep you informed about the different stages as the work progresses.
We appreciate the opportunity to work with you in this creative endeavor, and hope it will add years of enjoyment to your life.
